Love Letter to Philadelphia

I spent last night (October 10, 2012) working an event at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel, formerly the PSFS Building. It’s a fantastic bit of architecture by Howe and Lescaze, and the first skyscraper in the U.S.built in the International style. Capping off its excellence is the view from the 33rd floor, now a lounge/event space and formerly the site of PSFS’ board room. I work this event every single year, and for the last four years the weather’s been not so great for capturing the skyline at dusk. I got lucky last night, though!

Philly gets a bum wrap from most of the country. Sure, we’re a little more surly than most. Yes, we once booed Santa Claus and threw batteries at J.D. Drew, and the sports media will never ever forget that or fail to mention it. But we’re the lovable kind of mean. The kind of mean that will trip you on purpose, have a good laugh, then help you up and buy you a beer. I’ve given Philly it’s fair share of crap on my bad days, but, honestly, there’s no place I’d rather be …

… Except maybe Oregon or San Francisco.
